Are you looking to donate dog or cat supplies? We are highlighting the Colorado Pet Pantry. It’s a great organization that helps families and pets in need. My Wife and I have visited this organization in the past and we just want to let everybody else see this organization, what they do and so forth. .
Eileen is the executive director and founder of the Colorado Pet Pantry, which started up in 2013. It’s in Northwest Denver, and that was the start to what we’re doing now. Now they have 60 pet food banks all the way down from the Colorado, New Mexico border and all the way North up to Loveland, and this year the plan is to open up on the Western Slope.
Of course, COVID is kind of slowing things down because over here on the Front Range they are twice as busy with people have only started to miss a paycheck. They are expecting the need’s going to get a lot more. They partner with human food banks and so the people go through the human food bank and then they come to us and get pet food.
They always need volunteers at the warehouse. They need volunteers to help at food banks and that’s what all these wonderful ladies are doing over here, helping clients to get pet food. Colorado Pet Pantry always needs help at the food banks and on their website, there’s a button that says volunteer and then there’s a button that says volunteer at a pet food bank for a bit, and you just click on it, it’ll tell you where the openings are. Okay.
Donations, financially help them a lot. In 2019 they fed 60,000 pets for a month. And their goal in 2020 is 70,000. With COVID it might end up being more.
So what I would love for any new clients to do is to go to coloradopetpantry.org/new N-E-W because then you can sign up for the food bank that you want to go to. Then if there is a change that’s not like if we’re having to change the time or change the location, you’ll get an email or a text telling you what that change is. We do update our calendar on the website, but the email and text is helpful for like, “Oh we’ve got to massively change something.” Which I’ll tell you, things are changing here every single day right now.
The animals that they cover are dogs and cats, that’s it. We don’t do small mammals or anything like that. So just dogs and cats. They want to get it out to people who need it. Don’t hesitate to come if you need it. They do partner with FEMA food banks, but you don’t actually have to go to the human food bank to go. You certainly can, but you don’t have to.
One good thing that we can do is it costs $5 to feed a cat or dog for a month. So you think about how much, if you go to the store, how much it costs to buy animal food, but because the food is donated, they are able to feed a dog or cat for $5. That makes it really easy for people to get their head around like, “Hey, I can donate $10.” That means you’re going to help two animals that are otherwise hungry, to have food for a month.
